OWWA Repatriation Program

OWWA Repatriation Program brings assurance to all members who are in need of assistance during difficult circumstances that they might experience while working abroad.

As time passes by, more and more Filipinos across the country continue searching for various employment opportunities outside the country. This is because of the hope that they can rise up their families over poverty. Once they become Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), they can meet the financial needs of their families especially in paying house bills.

Moreover, they may also send their children and younger siblings to any state colleges and universities to pursue their chosen careers. Because of these promises, it is not surprising then that a lot of Filipinos go to several foreign manpower and recruitment agencies.

However, not all OFWs have had the luck in working outside the country. This is true for the case of domestic helpers who had been maltreated by their foreign employers. Moreover, some of them have not been properly compensated despite working as hard as possible. Others were not given any food and debarred from getting enough rest.

Because of this, a lot of distressed OFWs just want to go home in the country but they do not have any money for their airplane tickets. Worst, some foreign employers even captured their passports and asked money for non-completion of the contract.

Seeing these scenarios, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) has launched its repatriation program. This program aims to help out various distressed OFWs in going back in the country through government’s financial support in paying their plane tickets.

The agency also communicates with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) for the fast processing of their travel documents. In addition, the agency provides temporary shelter at the OWWA Halfway House for various distressed OFWs once they come back in the country. The national government, along with other non-profit organizations, also sponsors their bus and ship tickets back to their respective provinces.

Aside from this program, there are other OWWA Services Programs that OFWs may avail such as the livelihood and educational programs which are intended not for the OFWs but also for their respective families. OWWA programs like these are only a manifestation that the government is very thankful for the significant contribution of OFWs in overall development.

Through their monthly remittances, OFWs not only back up the financial needs of their loved ones but they also help in strengthening the economy of the country. This is why the government, through OWWA, continues in creating programs that are beneficial for OFWs.
