OWWA Loan OFWs

OFWs are looking for a loan that is being sponsored by OWWA – Overseas Workers Welfare Administration to augment their start-up business back home in the country.

Recent statistics showed that thousands of Filipinos leave the Philippines every year to work outside the country as Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs). While they work hard to meet the basic needs of their loved ones, they also strengthen the country’s economy through their continuous monthly remittances.

Such is the importance of millions of OFWs located in various parts of the world that the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) was established to guide the OFWs wherever they might be designated in. More than just a government agency that offers several benefits and services, OWWA also provides loan assistance to its member-OFWs.

Since its creation in the 1980s as a response to the growing number of OFWs, OWWA serves as the government’s sole institution in protecting and upholding the well-beings of OFWs. Part of its mission is to assist OFWs in their financial needs through different OWWA loan programs.

Programs for OFWs

These programs may be availed by both current and former OFWs provided that they have had been OWWA members and have complied with some of the loan requirements needed before the processing of their requests. Hence, interested OFWs should be equipped with information guide about these OWWA loan programs before submitting their applications.

One of the most-sought OWWA loan programs is the OFW Reintegration Program (OFW RP) wherein OFWs who intend to build their own businesses in the country may borrow money as long as their planned businesses are aligned to agri-business, manufacturing, trading, or services industries. It also gives psychological and social services to OFWs. Likewise, OFWs can avail the OWWA-NLSF Livelihood and Development Program which is under the auspices of the National Livelihood Support Fund.

Through this program, OFWs can borrow a maximum loan amount of PHP 20,000.00 provided that this will be solely used in creating or innovating business enterprises.

OWWA loan programs for millions of OFWs

These and other OWWA loan programs are really advantageous for millions of OFWs around the globe who chose to work and live abroad in order to give a brighter future for their loved ones in the Philippines. On the other hand, not only does OWWA help out OFWs but also the latter’s respective children and families as well.

In fact, many of its benefits and loan programs might also be availed by OFW beneficiaries and/or dependents as long as that their OFW-sponsors are OWWA members (through paying the mandatory US$ 25 membership fee) and have regularly been paying monthly contributions.
