The Philippine government is with our OFWs – Overseas Filipino Workers in giving support, protection and providing welfare as they are one of the backbones of the country’s economy. This is the reason why labour agency through their active and visible response across the world builds communication to all Filipino communities where OFWs are working as well as catering their families back home.
Department of Labor and Employment has an attached agency named as OWWA, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration. Its role is to provide services and programs among OFWs who are affected by current global crisis. One of the programs is to award livelihood grants worth PHP 20,000 each.
Balik Pinas! Balik Hanapbuhay! Program is a package of livelihood support and assistance intended to provide immediate relief to returning Overseas Filipino Workers who are distressed and displaced with the amount to a maximum of Php 20,000.00 as start-up or additional capital for the livelihood project.
We all know that there are thousands of OFWs where affected due to global crisis. Because of this, repatriated OFWs who are OWWA members and were employed by foreign employers which are affected with world financial difficulties could have a chance to avail this program.
Once an OFW who returned to the country and decided to stay home for good are given an opportunity to begin their own livelihood after attending trainings related to their line of business with partner agencies such as Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
OWWA Livelihood Program is a priority project for all OFWs who are affected on the current global crisis. This BPBH – Balik Pinas, Balik Hanapbuhay continues to grant OFWs and their families start a livelihood through self-employment.
Listed below are the following requirements and important details about this program:
1. Application Form (with Undertaking that the cash assistance will be used solely for self-employment or for starting or expansion of livelihood project or business)
2. Certificate of Entrepreneurial Development Training
3. Business Plan/Proposal approved by RWO Director indicating sustainability/feasibility of the chosen livelihood undertaking
4. Proof of repatriation or return to the Philippines (passport or travel documents, airline ticket)
It is a positive response where the administration of President Duterte listens and looks to the current needs of our modern heroes who are in need of welfare support during this time of global crisis.
